The Commission for the Protection of Cherokee Nation Sovereignty was established by the Principal Chief after the U.S. Supreme Court McGirt ruling in July, 2020 to make recommendations on expanding the Cherokee Nation courts, attorneys and marshal service. The Commission is made up of internal cabinet members, law enforcement, tribal councilors and judges and meets monthly. The Commission made its initial recommendations on September 30.
